Louise wanted to capture the experience of her first pregnancy in a series of portraits showing her growing bump. Here’s how we got on at her 3-month shoot.
One of these portraits will be chosen to be used in a series showing Louise’s journey through pregnancy, finishing with an image of the new mum with her baby. To give Louise the maximum amount of options later on, we captured a variety of outfits and backgrounds which she can pick from at the end.
First up is a high key portrait, which means an image that contains predominantly bright tones. Louise’s plain white T-shirt makes for an clean, simple and understated maternity portrait.
We upped the fab factor for this next shot, with Louise stepping into a beautiful draped dress. A black and white conversion narrows the range of tones, creating a gentle final image that has the sophistication of a limited colour palette.
“If I had my life to live over… Instead of wishing away nine months of pregnancy, I’d have cherished every moment and realized that the wonderment growing inside me was the only chance in life to assist God in a miracle.”

I love the florals of Louise’s dress here, supported by the gentle cream tones of the background.
We finished off on the white background with Louise wearing a white dress. This matches the simplicity of the previous T-shirt portrait, but with the added detail and femininity of the ruched fabric.
For our last few maternity portraits, we moved on to the black background, creating the image above and also the featured image on this post.
Louise and her husband David are very excited about meeting their little one. As the saying goes, pregnancy is about falling in love with a child you haven’t yet met, and it’s lovely to see them both head over heels already.
