New parents Oz and Gareth welcomed Harley into the world a little sooner than expected. Nevertheless, he (and they) are doing great. Here’s how we got on at their newborn photography shoot.
Oz had Harley nestled against her in a baby sling when she opened the door. She glanced down and smiled at him and I could tell the sleepless nights were so worth it.
I was there to capture some relaxed, modern and unfussy portraits of the new family, followed by a couple of tiny Harley on his own.
Oz and Gareth have a stunning home, with lots of neutral tones and soft greys. I picked out a room with a bare wall for a background and a large window for natural light, and we got started with this portrait of mum and baby together:
So many mums tell me this is their favourite bit of being a new parent: kissing, cuddling, smelling and falling in love with their baby.
Next up was dad’s turn:
I love dad’s soft smile as he gazes down at his son, here. There’s a lot of love there already!
Next, mum stepped back in for a portrait of all three family members together:
I love the light across everyone’s faces, the love in the parents’ eyes and the simplicity of the image.
We captured some more portraits of mum and dad on their own with Harley in a different pose. I particularly love this one, with Harley snoozing on dad’s shoulder:
Harley supplied the cute factor for our last family portrait, sighing and then taking a big yawn just as mum and dad snuggled up to him:
Then the spotlight was all Harley’s. I swaddled him tightly in soft cream wraps and nestled him into a sheepskin:
If you thought Harley’s face is cute while he’s peacefully sleeping, wait ’til you see his little smile:
Harley looks so content and cosy wrapped up here, even if that smile is just a reflex one!
To finish off, I captured Harley’s little feet and toes. They are perfectly formed and look adorable surrounded by the fluffy strands of the fabric around him.
After seeing the portraits, Gareth said, “These are fantastic. Thank you so, so much. Harley looks incredible and so cute. Thank you again so much for doing these.”
Oz added, “We love them! He looks so angelic. Thank you so much.”
