Handsome young Bryn travelled all the way from Wales for his newborn photography shoot. Read on to see some my favourites from our session.
October 2018 update: the above image of Bryn was awarded a Merit “in recognition of outstanding photographic skill and excellence in imaging” at the 2018 Master Photographers Association Awards. Merit winners were selected from thousands of entries by the best in the industry, not just in the UK but globally.
Brynmor William Seller Peacock (Bryn for short) arrived weighing 6 pounds 14 ounces. He made his entrance to the world at 3:50am on Father’s Day and was “the best Father’s Day gift you could ask for,” according to his dad, Andy.
Four weeks later, the new family of three headed over from Swansea in Wales to Bicester, Oxfordshire, for Bryn’s newborn photography shoot:
I like to start shoots off with a wrapped pose, as these help soothe babies into a deep, happy sleep. Here I’ve nestled Bryn amongst soft curls of grey wool to match his wrap as well as the textured floor beneath him.
From there it’s a smooth transition over to my specialist newborn photography beanbag, this time on a plain background to keep all the focus on Bryn’s gorgeous face and clasped hands:
There’s lots to love about newborns, but one of my particular favourites is their little, wedge-shaped feet. Baby feet are not yet worn down by years of walking and shoe-wearing; instead they are perfectly formed with impossible cute toes and toenails:
I love it when clients bring props and fabrics to their newborn session. It gives me additional opportunities to create something really unique for them, like this shot of Bryn with a couple of furry onlookers:
I especially love it when there’s a story behind the picture. ‘Denise’ is the cuddly creature on the right of the shot, while ‘Teddy’ is on the right. These soft toys were the childhood favourites of Bryn’s mum and dad respectively. I love how similar in tone both teddies are – clearly it was all meant to be 🙂
Andy and Victoria also bought this super-soft hand-made shawl, which I used as a background and loose wrap for the above portrait of Bryn sound asleep.
It’s an absolute honour to create the first professional portraits of a new family together, and an opportunity to show the bonds between each family member:
I love the simplicity of the colours in this shot – just whites and skin tones, with all the focus on mum and Bryn. A quick outfit and background change later, it was time for a low key (dark toned) family portrait on the black:
Mum and baby look so good here, too, that I had to include it:
Again, simple is often the best, with nothing to distract from the faces of Victoria and her handsome young son.
