“You look beautiful, Miss!” Gabby’s Year 2 primary school class of six-year-olds repeatedly told her. Their eyes grew wider as her baby bump grew bigger throughout the summer term, but they never failed to cheer her up with their smiles, compliments and curiosity when she was struggling during her pregnancy.
When her pupils asked when the baby would arrive, Gabby reassured them that he wasn’t due until the school holidays, and that she was looking forward to finishing the school year with them.
Little Jacob had other plans, however. At 35 weeks’ pregnant, Gabby’s waters broke. A few days later and Jacob arrived, weighing a healthy 6lbs 5oz.
Gabby and her husband George weren’t able to head home as quickly as they’d have liked, due to a few complications. But despite being stuck in an NHS ward, they remember the time spent there fondly. After all, these were days spent falling in love with their handsome new son.
Gabby and George are the sweetest couple. They met on their teacher training course and both work as primary school teachers at opposite ends of the age range. Gabby loves the complete honesty she gets from her Year 2 groups, while George loves the sometimes humorous and always engaging questions and answers he gets from his Year 6 group.
The couple have a lot in common, from their tendency to worry about things through to their complete adoration of each other. George loves how Gabby will always follow through on a commitment, and the devotion she shows those around her. Gabby loves how affectionate George is, and how he’s not afraid to show and share his feelings.
“I cried my eyes out the first time I held Jacob,” George told me.
After a tough pregnancy and an unexpectedly early birth, I can only imagine all the different emotions the couple experienced, from the joy of meeting their baby to the intense relief that everything was ok.
Happily, the pair are well-supported by a loving family and veteran grandparents. In fact, it was Gabby’s step-mum, Elaine, who organised Jacob’s newborn photography shoot as a gift to the couple. Even in the four weeks since Jacob’s arrival, he’s already changed and grown so much, and it’s so important to capture these precious first few days and weeks.
Because before you know it, little Jacob will be wearing his first school uniform and heading off to primary school to meet his new teacher. And if that teacher is even half as lovely as Gabby and George are, then Jacob will be in very safe hands indeed 🙂
After our shoot, Gabby said:
“We had a newborn photoshoot with Sarah. From the moment we arrived we were made to feel extremely welcome. Sarah was fantastic at putting us all at ease and looking after our month old son. She has captured some beautiful photos that we will treasure forever. We can’t recommend her highly enough.”
