Mel, Scott and three-year-old Issac were the first to arrive at my studio for their extended family photos.
By way of hello, Issac shared some happy news: “My mummy has a baby in her tummy!”
Indeed, this awesome family are about to add another little one to the ranks, which has made everyone very excited!
Nana Jo organised this three-generation family photoshoot with me after receiving gift vouchers from her very kind friend, Kate.
Kate’s son, Dan, has been going out with Jo’s eldest, Charlotte for six years now, and as a result the families have grown close, too.
Jo loves children so much that she spends her days with them, working at a nursery. But there’s something extra-special about your own kin, and there’s no better role than grandparent.
“I love the whole thing,” Jo told me, “we look after the children all the time, and love getting hands-on with them, being daft and having fun.
“Issac loves playing with toys and helping Julian mow the garden, while Louis has just learned to sit up and loves to play and interact.”
Eight-month-old Louis did a little more than sit up during our shoot. In fact, he chose this very moment to crawl for the very first time, witnessed by his delighted family.
Even though it was his first time, he moved across the studio floor with confidence, and I don’t think it will be long at all before he’s zipping across his nana and granddad’s carpets!
We spent a happy hour or so capturing all the different family combinations, including recreating a shot that Jo’s three children had taken at a studio over a decade ago.
All the excitement wore little Louis out, and as we finished up he settled into granddad’s shoulder for a snooze.
“I want to come back here,” Issac told everyone at the end of the shoot. To me, he added, “You can come to my disco later!”
My heart melted. As we grow up we learn to protect ourselves by filtering our thoughts, feelings and opinions before we share them. But when we’re three years ago, we say exactly what we mean.
That’s why these comments are so precious – because every word is heart-felt and truthful in that moment. And soon Issac is going to have someone else to share all his love and affection with: his new baby sister or brother, due this summer. 🙂
After our shoot, Melanie and Abbie said:
“We had a wonderful family photoshoot with Sarah a few weeks ago, and today viewed the fabulous shots she took. I’m not a huge fan of having my photograph taken but Sarah made us all feel very comfortable and was brilliant with the two little ones! I would highly recommend her, and will definitely be using her again in the future.”

“We had our photos taken as a family including 2 small children (one 8 month old & one 3 year old) & the photos turned out absolutely amazing! Sarah entertained the children so much that they were smiling in all photos! She was very welcoming, accommodating & the outcome of the photos couldn’t be any better. It was a lovely experience & I would definitely recommend to anyone looking for beautiful pictures☺️.”
