2020 was a busy year for Holly and Adam. They celebrated the start of a new job, welcomed a new puppy into their lives and moved into a brand new home. A baby was very much hoped for in the future but wasn’t in the plan for 2020.
However, after feeling a little weird and nauseous one morning, Holly took an old pregnancy test that had been languishing in the cupboard for months. The box and instructions were missing, and Holly wasn’t too sure how to interpret the result. A quick search on Google suggested it might be showing a positive test. Just to be sure, Adam popped out to buy some new packs. Each test said the same: Holly was pregnant.
After the initial shock, excitement set in, especially as this will be the first grandchild on both sides of the family. Indeed, the couple have been showered with gifts from friends and family: toys, clothes, blankets and more. Everyone is so, so excited to meet her.
When it comes to gifts, Adam has a slightly more challenging situation. Holly’s birthday, the couple’s anniversary and Christmas all fall within the month of December, so by the time he’s thinking about Christmas shopping, he’s used up a lot of ideas already and given out any spare suggestions to friends and family.
Nevertheless, Adam clearly puts the thought in to come up with the perfect present. The couple’s maternity photoshoot with me was his idea, and a surprise gift for Holly’s birthday the week before.
That’s especially thoughtful as one thing the couple haven’t got a lot of is photos. Holly told me that they aren’t very good at documenting their lives. She’d initially planned to record all her pregnancy milestones using an app, taking photos as her bump grew. But daily life got in the way and she didn’t get a chance to start.
Thanks to Adam’s gift of a maternity photoshoot, they now have a set of beautiful usages to look back on, capturing the love and anticipation just two weeks before baby’s due date. 🙂
