After over a year in various states of lockdown, Lorraine, Bart and 18-month-old Evie were recently able to go to the zoo for the first time.
Evie particularly enjoyed meeting the zebras, giraffes and meerkats, but she loved jumping in the muddy puddles most of all, happily splashing around in her miniature welly boots.
That counts for baths too, which used to be a relaxed affair but are now mainly about keeping as much water as possible in the tub, while Evie tries to do the opposite!
Evie can already count to 10 but her favourite number is 6 because that’s the number of the house the family life at – Evie points at the numeral by the front door and shouts ‘six’ every time she sees it. She also loves looking through her books, particularly the last spread of The Very Hungry Caterpillar which has lots of pictures of different food items.
Evie used to love all food but has recently followed in her mum’s footsteps, becoming more fussy. Her current preferences are cheese and chocolate – two top choices I can certainly relate to!
Evie is already very independent, preferring to run on ahead rather than hold hands and stay with her parents. She’s a little bit shy with new people but once she relaxes is incredibly bright, busy and curious about the world around her. She is on the go all the time at home, with mum and dad only getting a chance to sit down when Evie is having her naps!
For dad Bart, the best moment so far started off as an ordinary evening: Evie had had her bath and the family were playing together on the bed. Then, out of the blue, Evie looked up, pointed at Bart and said ‘dad’. It was a truly magical moment, made even better for being so spontaneous and unexpected.
Bart tells me that Evie really keeps them on their toes. They were worried when Evie was coming up to her first birthday and hadn’t yet taken her first steps. No sooner than they mentioned this, Evie put one foot in front of the other for the first time, as if proving she could do it.
Now there’s no stopping her, as she spends her days happily walking, running and jumping into as many muddle puddles as she can find. 🙂
