Maternity photos with Amy and Dan

February 2022 update: The above image has just won a Highly Commended in the January 2022 monthly competition run by the Master Photographers Association. Amy and Dan went to school together but were in separate groups so their paths didn’t cross much during the school day. One afternoon, Dan was walking to football practice when he noticed something pink in the distance. Amy was on her Vespa, a 16th birthday gift from her dad, and was zipping along towards him.

As they passed each other, both turned to watch the other go. The attraction was instant. Amy looked Dan up on Facebook, and they quickly became an item. Fast-forward 10 years and it’s clear they are well-matched and very excited about becoming parents together.

Amy loves how funny Dan is, and that he makes her laugh everyday by being silly. She already knows he’ll be rolling around on the floor, making noises and doing whatever it takes to entertain their little one.

Dan believes he’s an organised type, but tells me Amy takes being organised to a whole ‘nother level. Indeed, she even thought to stuff baby’s little booties in advance, so that they stayed upright when used as a prop in one of the photos:

Amy is a professional nanny, with years of experience dealing with little ones. She’s worked with children from tiny newborns right up to young teens, so she knows what to expect and also how to handle the unexpected! She’s been looking forward to having a baby of her own for a long time now, and can’t wait to put her maternal skills and instincts to good use. Dan will be watching closely, and is hoping she’ll teach him everything she knows!

The couple had been planning to get married last year, but the pandemic disrupted their plans so they decided to start making a family instead. They had been considering a wedding abroad but may now go for a UK ceremony and an extended honeymoon to make things easier for their guests.

The next trip they want to get booked in is to Borneo to see the orang-utans. They are Amy’s favourite animal and she’s not yet seen one in the wild, so it’s time to put that right.

In the meantime they hope to pop over to Amy’s parents’ holiday home in Corfu in Autumn this year, a perfect way to extend their summer and enjoy a relaxed holiday in a home-from-home setting.

Amy’s mum is super excited about meeting her first grandchild. She’s hoping the baby arrives early as she’d booked a flight to the Corfu house for mid-July ages ago – and wants to squeeze in as much time with the new arrival as possible before she leaves!

Dan is an Air Traffic Controller, following in his dad’s RAF footsteps. He and Amy very much hope to get posted somewhere warm abroad in future, so they can live by the sea and swim and surf to their hearts’ content.

Until then, they’re making do with the next best thing: heading off to an open-air swimming pool near Dan’s base to float around in the water and make the most of the time to relax and enjoy the warmer weather before baby arrives. 🙂
