I first met Amie and her son George at his Newborn Photoshoot a year ago (see the photos here). George’s dad, Patrick, was busy with work so unable to come along that time, so it was extra special to have all three members of the family in the studio to celebrate George’s first birthday with a cake smash photoshoot.
In the year since I first met George, he has transformed from a snoozy little bundle of joy into a tall, happy and mobile little boy with the sweetest strawberry-blond hair.
“Every day he changes a little in some way,” Amie said, “it seems like only yesterday he was a newborn baby yet now he’s a toddler already!”
George has already started crawling and has now progressed to pulling himself up on furniture. He also enjoys holding mum and dad’s hands to support him so he can walk along.
Amie tells me he’s a gentle, sensitive soul, who loves nursery rhymes, peek-a-boo and being out on his little trike. He’s easy going, and loves all food, although he’s not averse to sharing: if he’s got blueberries on his plate, he’ll offer them to you, and then hold out his sippy cup so you can clink glasses with him and say, ‘cheers!’.
To mark his milestone birthday, Amie and Patrick had their families round the week before the big day, then headed off to the West Sussex seaside to spend a week together as a unit of three at the pebble beach there.
“George is VERY nosy,” Amie told me, “When we take him swimming, if someone near to us is having a conversation or laughing, he stares at them. If we’re sat having a meal, he’s looking around at the table next to us. If they smile at him or each other, he does this little laugh to join in.”
George was an absolute star during his first birthday cake smash photoshoot with me, showing off his gorgeous grin at every opportunity:
He was a little more wary when we presented him with a whole cake just for him (hey, if it sounds too good to be true, it usually is!) but with a little encouragement he soon got stuck in:
George is now a cake-eating pro, which means he’s all set to enjoy the next family birthday, coming up soon; his dad’s, Patrick, who is celebrating in just a few days’ time.
Amie and Patrick invested in some Fine Art textured prints for George’s newborn photos, and they told me how much better they looked than ordinary prints. They now plan to do the same with the images from this session, displaying as many as possible on the walls of their new home.
After all, as dad Patrick told me, this past year has gone by as quick as a flash, and the only way to preserve moments in time is to capture them in precious photographs.
In the meantime, don’t grow up too quick, George!
After our photoshoot, Amie said:
“Thank you so much. Myself and Pat are over the moon with the photos!”
