Picture the scene: a biology seminar at an Australian university. Undergraduate Yujung is there, learning for her degree while Gamma is there as part of his PhD.
The two began talking that day, and they haven’t stopped since. Nine years later, and one thing in particular has changed: the conversational topics have shifted. Instead of discussing science, they are now talking about prams, nappies and parenting, because this lovely couple are about to become parents for the first time.
On our pre-shoot call, Yujung told me they are both very much looking towards starting this new chapter in both their lives as they embark on starting a family.
Baby’s arrival is going to be a double surprise: they don’t know whether they are having a boy or girl, and don’t even know whether baby will arrive this year or next: that’s because the baby is due on 30 December, so could make an appearance in 2022 if he or she is just a few days late!
However, I’m going to need to be patient when it comes to meeting this lovely couple’s new arrival. Typically, newborn photoshoots take place within a few weeks of a baby being born, but Yujung and Gamma want to wait until their families can be there, too, which means they’ll be opting for an older newborn session instead. As their parents live in New Zealand and Australia, there’s a lot of logistics to sort out in order to get both families here in the UK at the same time.
Nevertheless, as this baby will be the first grandchild on both sides, you can just imagine how excited everyone is feeling. Happily, Yujung’s mum has just got permission from the Australian government to travel, and she’ll be staying here for four months from the end of November.
From what my other clients have told me, having that extra pair of hands is absolutely priceless, and having such a long chunk of time with her mum around will be such a precious time for both of them to look back on.
In the meantime, there’s the final preparations to take care of: the last few things to buy, the nursery to finish, and – of course – the last images of Yujung and Gamma as a couple before they become a family of three 🙂
