Annie and Ed weren’t sure how Lola, their miniature golden doodle, would respond to their new arrival.
Lola had been the centre of attention for several years, and they were worried how she’d feel about being bumped down the pecking order.
However, they needn’t have worried. Lola is gentle and caring towards Teddy, checking on him first of all when she gets in and nuzzling him when he cries.
She also looks as proud as punch to be walking next to the pram when the family go on their daily stroll now!
Lola is not the only one. Ed’s 12-year-old sister is absolutely buzzing about becoming an auntie. She’s told all her friends at school about the baby’s arrival, and insisted on pushing the pram the first time she met Teddy.
Annie and Ed met while shared halls at university.
As they started chatting, they were surprised to find out that they’d grown up only 15 minutes away from each other, and had attended many of the same parties and events. It’s as though fate kept throwing them together until they got the hint and got hitched!
It’s no wonder they belong together – they are both super kind, loving, caring and calm. Watching them change Teddy’s nappy during the session was like seeing a choreographed dance: each knowing exactly what the other needed and when.
Annie is super organised and tidy, while Ed is the Head Chef at home, rustling up a Hunter’s or spatchcock chicken, ready for Annie’s arrival after a long day at work in the healthcare sector.
When she’s not diagnosing people, Annie is most likely to be found on the Korfball court. Her team have recently gone up in the league, no doubt helped by the coaching she gave when she had to step away from the court after her first trimester.
The current season is now coming to a close, but Annie is excited and impatient to get back to training just as soon as she can.
Ed is equally sporty, although he’s more likely to be found on the golf course or cricket pitch.
He also put his hat in the ring for a spot at the London Marathon, expecting that nothing would come of it – 98% of entries to the ballot fail to secure a spot.
However, just after the couple found out they were expecting, Ed got the news that he’d won a place. This is an opportunity not to be missed, and Annie will be cheering him on from home.
It’s not Ed’s first marathon: he took part in the Southampton Marathon a few years ago, but an issue with one of his knees slowed him down. He’s aiming for a sub four-hour finish next month.
Both Annie and Ed are hoping Teddy follows in their footsteps by taking part in their respective sports, but it’s also likely Teddy will spend his working hours as an accountant.
Finance has been the career path for Ed’s family for multiple generations, so Teddy will have the advantage of being exposed to the jargon from a young age.
As if having a baby and training for a marathon weren’t enough to focus on, Annie and Ed have also moved house fairly recently, and the property they bought was in need of some modernisation.
Of course, there’s nothing like a deadline to get things done, and most of the renovation work was completed a couple of days before Teddy arrived.
Now there’s just the garage left to do, and Annie and Ed hope to make progress on that shortly, during a weekend visit by Teddy’s grandparents.
The grandparents get to hold Teddy all day long, while Annie and Ed get to unpack the rest of the boxes and tidy everything away.
Ed’s parents live in the New Forest, with the beach five minutes away in one direction and a wood five minutes away in the opposite direction. This makes for an ideal place to visit, and Teddy will be heading down there for the first of many times this summer.
Talking of holidays, when Teddy’s seven, Annie and Ed plan to take him to Disneyworld. They have fond memories of their own trips there and can’t wait to relive the fun and excitement again.
In the meantime, there’s plenty of excitement at home, with absolutely everyone already completely besotted with the arrival of the first grandchild – even the dog!
