Newborn photoshoot with 13-day-old Bronte

Charlotte and Harry were struggling to come up with a shortlist of baby names.

They didn’t know if they were having a boy or a girl, and they wanted a different name – something special.

They spoke about it with friends, who suggested thinking about places they’d been to.

Charlotte and Harry loved Bronte Beach in Australia, so put that on top of their shortlist for girls’ names.

They really struggled to find a boy’s name that they both liked, but luckily they didn’t need to worry about this.

They’d decided not to find out the baby’s gender ahead of time, although both initially guessed ‘boy’, partly based on the medical staff’s occasional use of ‘he’ to refer to their baby.

Nevertheless, in the birthing pool Charlotte pulled her baby up and out of the water and saw that she’d given birth to a daughter: Bronte Jane, with her middle name in honour of both grandmothers.

Since the moment of Bronte’s arrival, Charlotte and Harry have been spending every waking moment falling in love with her (albeit occasionally wishing for a few more sleeping moments!).

Bronte is the first granddaughter on Harry’s side of the family, who are based in Princes Risborough.

Although Charlotte has older brothers who have children, those children are now in their late teens and older, so Bronte’s arrival has caused just as much of a stir on her side of the family, based in Birmingham.

Charlotte and Harry partly chose to live in Bicester as it was approximately halfway between both sets of parents, and was close to Charlotte’s previous workplace, in Oxford.

Now they are considering moving closer to London for Harry’s work, with Charlotte’s parents even considering moving further south, too, to be more able to be involved in helping care for Bronte.

After a smooth arrival, Bronte has also been feeding well, and is already well past her birth weight.

Both Charlotte and Harry love sports and can’t wait to be able to take Bronte with them to play tennis and Padel.

Indeed, they first met at the sports bar at their university, and found they got on well and had lots in common.

They got married, lived at Harry’s parents through Covid (and while waiting for their new build house to be completed) and welcomed Betty the Golden Cockapoo into their home.

Now they’ve reached the next milestone in their lives together, as they enter the world of parenthood.

And little Bronte is as special, unique and perfect as the name her parents so carefully came up with for her.
