Terri and Lorenzo are expecting their first baby, and wanted to capture the journey to parenthood with a studio maternity shoot.
Terri and Lorenzo are a lovely, Oxford-based couple who are celebrating a big year: they recently got engaged, are due to move home and now are preparing for the birth of their first child. These are a few of my favourites from their recent maternity portrait session in my Bicester photography studio:
Terri and Lorenzo are great fun, and very happy and positive by nature. However, I wanted to capture the softer emotions as well as all the big smiles, so created this image of them snuggled together. I love black and white for moodier, emotional images, as it brings all the focus to the connection between the couple.
Terri wore a stunning royal blue maternity dress. Thanks to some great wardrobe planning, Lorenzo complemented her perfectly by also wearing shades of blue. I love their matching smiles in this one, and that we get to see Terri’s sparkling engagement ring 🙂
Terri was the star of the show in the next few shots, starting with this one on the black background. As a very (very!) pale person, I am in awe of Terri’s golden glow. She tells me that her secret weapon is tinted moisturiser – I must try some of that!
Next we switched to the white studio background, to create some portraits with a high-key look. High key simply means lots of light-coloured tones, as in this shot of Terri seated. I love the soft, muted colour of this dress, which contrasts nicely with the bold hues of the blue dress in the previous images.
We brought Lorenzo back into the frame for the final two maternity photos. First off is this cheery one of the couple cuddling up together, with expressions that reveal just how excited they are about their impending arrival. I love how Lorenzo’s arm curves around Terri, his hand meeting hers and bringing our eye to the baby bump.
Terri and Lorenzo brought these little booties with them as a potential prop. I asked Lorenzo to hold them up towards the camera for this cheeky shot. I absolutely love his expression here, as well as the casual stance and the way he seems to be saying ‘These? Oh, they’re for my son. I’m going to be a dad!”
After seeing the portraits, Terri said:
“I was extremely happy with the service I received from Sarah after a work collage recommended her to me. It was very professional comfortable and friendly atmosphere while getting my materniy photos done, which I am over the moon with! Also I have now booked in for my baby’s newborn photos when he arrives!”
