What happens if you really want newborn-style portraits, but your beautiful daughter is a little bit older than the usual two-week photoshoot window?
Having a newborn in your home shakes up your routine, your to-do list and your plans, at least for a while. So some new parents might not get around to booking in a shoot for their newborn photos within the first 14 days after his or her birth.
Other parents aren’t sure whether they’d like to have newborn portraits until they’ve met their little one. If and when they decide they really do want to capture how small and tiny their newborn child’s features are, that decision might happen when baby is already a month or two old.
Those adorable, sleepy, curled-up newborn poses become tougher to capture after the first 14 days, so whenever I can I try to book new arrivals in for that period. When that’s not possible, however, that doesn’t mean you can no longer have the newborn-style portraits you were hoping for.
In fact, I’ve captured newborn-style photos with babies who were four weeks old (check out sweet little Nia and handsome young Bryn) right up to 12 weeks old.
So when new mum Madiha got in contact about newborn and family photography for her five-week-old sweetheart, Amaiyrah-Noor, I explained that we wouldn’t be able to get all of the same poses as a 2-week-old newborn. However, I was confident that we would still be able to capture beautiful portraits in the newborn style as well as some gorgeous family shots.
And so it proved to be. Amaiyrah-Noor treated us to cuddles, smiles and lots of sleepy moments, too, giving mum and dad the chance to show her off in a series of beautiful family and baby photos, plus some stunning individual ones, too:
After our shoot, dad Faisal said:
“Sarah clearly has a love for what she does. From the minute we arrived at her home studio we felt at ease, Sarah was wonderful with our daughter and followed her lead with the poses she did happily and didn’t force anything our little one wasn’t happy with and moved on with the next shot. When Sarah came around for the portrait reveal we fell in love with all the picture and kept every single one. We will definitely be recommending her to everyone!!”
