Mum Roz was looking for bump and baby pictures when she found my website. She and partner Wayne had two beautiful children already – Oliver (4) and Jessica (2) – and the family were just about to welcome their third, Harrison.
July 2019 Update: The above portrait has been awarded a Highly Commended Rosette from the Master Photographers Association (MPA). MPA Chairman Ray Lowe commented, “This one I really love. It’s probably one of the best high keys* I’ve seen for some time. I love the way you’ve got the boy being the tallest and cuddling mum where the girl is on mum’s lap [and] the expressions are superb, absolutely superb… Beautiful shot.”
*A high key image is a picture with predominantly bright tones.
Oliver and Jessica had both arrived a couple of weeks before their due dates, so we were all expecting the same with Harrison. Clients often ask me how I plan newborn shoots, as their day of arrival can’t be accurately predicted in advance (with the exception of scheduled C-sections, of course). The answer is that I pencil in a shoot date for a week after baby’s expected arrival, and then we adjust that as needed. Baby is definitely the boss for this type of shoot, so I build in flexibility to my diary (partly by limiting the number of newborn shoots I commit to each month).
The family of four + bump came to my Bicester studio to capture the final weeks of Roz’ pregnancy. Then, with the bump shoot done and the newborn shoot pencilled in, all we could do now was wait.
Well I think Harrison is going to be a very chilled out little dude, as he was perfectly happy to stay put for a while longer. We nudged the shoot date back a little later and waited.
Happily, he finally arrived on 30 May at 2.46am, weighing a perfect 6lbs 14oz.
When his siblings came to meet Harrison for the first time, Oliver walked over, pointed to his mum’s tummy where her pregnancy bump had been and asked if it was the same baby from in there. Mum assured him it was, and Oliver seemed happy with this answer 🙂
Jessica shouted, ‘Baby!’ when she first saw her new brother (and has been spotted trying to breastfeed her doll since!).
Just under two weeks later, the family headed back to my studio to capture their new family of five…
…and all three siblings together:
You can tell these three are going to have a lot of fun growing up together!
Lastly, here’s a little peek behind-the-scenes of one of the above newborn photo (thanks to mum Roz for the shot!)):
After our shoot, mum Roz said:
“Sarah is a fantastic photographer and we would highly recommend her. Whilst it is clear to see her talent from her photos, she is also amazing behind the camera. She is professional, slick and experienced. Trying to capture the perfect moment with three children including a baby is no simple task, however Sarah is able to do this with ease. It’s no surprise she achieves amazing results.”
