It was emotional. After a long labour, Arthur finally arrived. Still high on gas and air, Roberta cuddled him to her chest while repeating, ‘My baby, my baby’. Her husband Kirk – not normally one to cry – couldn’t hold back the tears either.
[January 2020 Update: The above image has just been awarded a Highly Commended Rosette by the Master Photographers Association (MPA). Ray Lowe, Chairman of the MPA, commented, “A perfect newborn taken by Sarah Plater. It just works. It’s a beautiful, gentle high key newborn portrait.”]
After ten years together and nine months of waiting to meet their little one, now he was here. Arthur Randolph: his middle name chosen in honour of his great paternal grandfather. Kirk’s parents were incredibly moved by the gesture when they asked what their new grandson’s name was.
In fact, it’s fitting that Roberta and Kirk chose a family name – these guys value their relatives hugely. They share the same town with both sets of parents – in fact, the houses of the maternal and paternal grandparents of little Arthur are just 300 steps apart (yup, they counted!). This makes it super convenient on Christmas Day, when they head to one end of the street for lunch, then walk (or roll!) to the other end for dinner.
Kirk has joined the family business, a local accounting firm, and has really enjoyed getting to know the local business owners, while helping them to comply with tax legislation. It’s common for his clients to see him around town – he just hopes they don’t corner him with some impromptu calculations because, like me, he doesn’t enjoy mathematics under pressure!
Kirk has been managing the night shift since Arthur arrived. He doesn’t mind missing out on his sleep because he gets to watch about a hundred different expressions pass over his son’s face every minute.
Roberta loves how protective Kirk is of their new son, and can’t wait for the pair of them to start interacting. I’m sure they will get up to lots of mischief, particularly as Kirk is the joker of the family!
In the meantime, Arthur is keeping everyone amused: he’s already got super-strong muscles and loves to wriggle around, including making several successful escape attempts from his swaddles during our newborn photoshoot! When he sleeps he makes the cutest little noises, and – like his proud new parents – I could happily watch and cuddle him all day! 🙂
After our shoot, Roberta said:
“Sarah is great! From the initial emails to the photoshoot itself she was professional, friendly and lovely. She was absolutely brilliant with our newborn and we got the most perfect pictures. When I started looking for a newborn photographer I came across Sarah and knew straight away that her style was for us. She put us at ease on the day and the communication has been fantastic from start to finish! We would strongly reccomend Sarah to anyone wanting the most adorable shots of their newborn! Thank you again Sarah and we hope we get the opportunity to be photographed by you again in the future!”
