“Can I have a baby sister?” Four-year-old Gwen asked her parents. A lot of Gwen’s nursery friends had new arrivals in the family recently, and Gwen decided that she’d like a sibling, too.
But mum and dad didn’t want to get her hopes up, telling Gwen that they might be too old to have a baby. Gwen accepted this answer, and – of course – told everyone at nursery.
So when mum and dad found out they were expecting, they were very excited to let Gwen know. Gwen however, didn’t quite believe them. “But you’re too old!” she told them.
Gwen had been learning about healthy eating at nursery, so when mum’s baby bump started to grow, Gwen still didn’t believe there was a baby inside. Instead, she announced that mum was eating too much chocolate!
In the end, her parents took her along to one of the prenatal appointments, where the sonographer kindly invited Gwen to move the doppler over mummy’s bump. Gwen was amazed to hear the baby’s heartbeat, and finally believed that there was a little sibling growing there, after all.
However, she was very specific that she wanted a sister. Again, mum and dad tried to manage her expectations, knowing that there was a 50:50 chance of a boy arriving.
Happily, the family did welcome a little girl, Lucy, and Gwen has already been a perfect big sister, giving her lots of love and gentle cuddles.
Mum and dad have been delighted too, with their favourite moments so far being spent as a family of four, cuddling up on the sofa together.
Sometimes you are lucky enough to get what you wish for, and it’s everything you wanted and more 🙂
After our shoot, dad said:
“[Sarah is] very good with children, putting everyone at ease and capturing natural moments wonderfully.”
