“It was emotionally overwhelming to hold her for the first time,” Chris told me, “words can’t describe it.”
Chris and Sarka told me they were both in tears when they first met their little girl, Annelie.
She’s only just over two weeks old, but already growing out of her newborn clothes and changing so rapidly, you can almost watch her change from hour to hour.
The proud new parents brought Annelie into my Bicester studio for her newborn photos, just a few weeks after their maternity photoshoot with me. This couple are such good fun, teasing each other and staying good-humoured even if they are feeling a little tired!
There was, however, a small moment of panic in the hospital. Shortly before Annelie’s arrival, Sarka turned to Chris and asked, “What if we can’t do this!?”
Chris who was already feeling nervous about becoming a new dad, pointed out it was a little late to change course now! Indeed, there’s no instruction manual that’s given when you leave the hospital with your new arrival, but these guys are learning quickly.
In fact, Chris has already put a few rules in place, including the hold/nappy rule: if you’re holding Annelie when she needs a nappy change, that means it’s your turn to do it. This rule may backfire a little, however, as Chris is always keen to cuddle with her.
Sarka loves cuddling Annelie, too, especially when she’s sleeping. Every so often, Annelie will reach out a little searching hand, as if to check that Sarka is still there.
These first 18 days have already passed so quickly, and before you know it, Annelie won’t be a newborn anymore! Happily, there’s still so much to look forward to: first smiles, first words and first steps, to name just a few.
And witnessing each of those milestones will be just as indescribable as meeting adorable Annelie for the very first time 🙂
