New dad Alex isn’t normally one to cry. In fact his partner, Keri, hadn’t ever seen him cry. At least, not until their first baby was born a few weeks ago.
Alex wasn’t even planning to be in the delivery room. He’s incredibly squeamish, so the couple agreed that he’d stay outside.
But in the end, Keri’s labour dragged on for so long that Alex couldn’t bear to leave her when she was in so much pain.
All those hours were worth it. Little Arielle eventually arrived. The delight, relief and sheer joy meant there wasn’t a dry eye in the room.
All this wasn’t what Keri had in mind when Alex first walked in to the tanning salon where she worked. But something clicked between them both, and after a few chats Alex asked for her number.
Seven years later, the pair are closer than ever, and are now proud parents to tiny Arielle.
Keri hopes Arielle will inherit her calmness. That certainly seems to be the case, with Arielle snoozing contentedly through almost all of our newborn shoot at my Bicester studio. From Alex’s side, Keri hopes Arielle will get her dad’s creativity and organisational skills.
And from both of them, Keri hopes Arielle will inherit a love of family and adventure.
Arielle is the first grandchild on either side of the family, so both sets of grandparents have gone crazy! Even her nan’s friends have bought the couple baby gifts. In fact, everyone has been so generous that Keri tells me she doesn’t need to buy any clothing until Arielle is at least nine months!
Even nicer than all the material gifts, though, is the gift of the wider family itself. Keri and Alex’s parents both live nearby so are able to pop in and help regularly. They regularly visit each other’s homes to share meals, and even holiday together. The extra pairs of hands and all that love means that Arielle and her parents are very lucky and extremely well looked-after indeed! 🙂
After our shoot, Keri said:
“Sarah is an absolutely fantastic photographer and I am over the moon with the images she has taken of myself and my daughter. She is also very warm and welcoming and fantastic with babies.”
