When Tanvika was born, mum Ramya couldn’t quite believe what she saw.
“She was a Xerox copy of my eldest, Lucky,” she told me, “it took me a few minutes to really believe that this was my second child, and that I hadn’t travelled back in time 11 years!”
Tanvika is a much longed-for daughter, whose name means ‘beautiful’ and which was given to her in honour of a Hindu goddess. She and her lovely family came to my Bicester studio for newborn photos when she was just three weeks old.
It was the family’s very first trip out of the house as a family of four, as the family are following the traditions of their culture by staying indoors and eating certain food at specific times, just as their ancestors have done for many years previously.
Tanvika snoozed through the journey over to my Bicester studio then enjoyed looking around at everything going on throughout her newborn photoshoot.
While it was the first time that I met Tanvika, I have met her family before – when she was in mum’s bump! The trio of mum, dad and Lucky booked a maternity photoshoot with me a few weeks before Tanvika was born, to capture the magical anticipation and excitement around her impending arrival.
Having a newborn for the second time is proving to be a totally different experience this time around. When Lucky was born, the family lived in India, with a lot more relatives and helpers closer to hand. Happily, Ramya’s mother, known to the family as ‘Amma’ (meaning ‘Mother’ in Hindi), has travelled over to stay for a few months to help out.
Everyone in the family is enjoying getting to know Tanvika, but she’s particularly fond of one person in particular: her big brother Lucky. As soon as she hears his voice when he gets in from school, she opens her eyes and looks for him. When she sees him, she just stares him, like she already knows him and looks up to him.
Perhaps she knows she looks just like he did when he was born, and is looking forward to growing up by his side. 🙂
