“My wife won’t make a fuss,” David told the doctors on arrival at the JR, “but that doesn’t mean she’s not in advanced labour.”
Indeed, after a quick examination, the doctors told David and Louise they needed to head to the delivery room now.
Just seven minutes later, David was cutting the cord and the couple were welcoming their new son, Finley, into the world, just after 1am.
It wasn’t until everyone was a little more settled that David had a chance to mention that things hadn’t been set up quite as they should in the delivery room…
The gas and air tube had lost connection with the tank, which meant that the device Louise was breathing from to help with pain management was not actually providing any relief at all.
However, by the time David noticed this, things had already progressed too far for the tube to be hooked back on in time. The only thing he could do was hold, support and encourage Louise as much as he could.
“She’s an absolute hero,” David told me afterwards, “she is simply incredible.”
Indeed, Louise said afterwards that she felt lucky that labour and birth had been quick and straightforward, but did notice that it was particularly painful!
Finley’s arrival has meant three-year-old Florence has been promoted to big sister, a role which she has taken to with gusto. She’s very keen to stroke him, sing to him (‘Baby Shark’ is her current top hit) and be as involved as possible in everything he’s doing!
Indeed, Florence is one of the least-shy youngsters I’ve had in the studio this year, waltzing straight into the spotlight and informing us all what she’d like to do next! 🙂
Louise and David have been friends with me and my husband Jon for many years. Louise and Jon used to car-share when they both worked together in Aylesbury, and since then we’ve met up hundreds of times, been on multiple holidays together, and built up a repertoire of shared jokes longer than your average to-do list.
They’ve also been long-term clients and supporters of my photography business. I photographed Florence as an 18-day-old newborn (see the images here) and again as a two-year-old (see the images here).
All this meant that when they announced they were expecting a second child I knew they’d be perfect candidates to feature in a special promotional video. This short film gives prospective clients a peek into what it’s like having a photography session with me (watch it on my newborn photoshoot page here!).
In the meantime, I wish you a very warm welcome to the world, Finley! What an entrance you’ve made already! 🙂
