Lucia’s husband Barry was at work when she went to her pregnancy scan and found out they were expecting twins.
When she told him the news, he sat down and poured himself a beer. He finished his drink before he responded, no doubt going through a whole range of emotions.
After all, the couple had decided to try for one more baby a while previously, and it had been a tough and rocky road.
Finally, Barry spoke. He said, “This is very special. And had we not gone through these last few years, this wouldn’t have happened.”
Indeed, after the shock and surprise had worn off, both Barry and Lucia were left with a sense of excitement and privilege.
“I’ve always loved twins,” Lucia told me, “I just didn’t expect them in my last pregnancy!”
I last met this lovely family at their family and newborn photoshoot with me for baby Amelie, two-and-a-half years ago (see the photos here)
In that short period of time, so much has changed. Their eldest daughter Elouise is nearly 7 years old already. She’s particularly into L.O.L. dolls, and was delighted to get one for Christmas this year.
Elouise also enjoys Lego and Minecraft, the latter of which she regularly plays with sister Isabella, who turns 5 this month. Isabella is like a little shadow, always following Elouise around.
In fact, when Elouise was sent to bed early for misbehaving once, Isabella snuck in to deliver a torch to her, so that Elouise could see in the dark and read under the covers.
Meanwhile, for two-and-a-half-year-old Amelie, life is all about Peppa Pig.
One of the characters in the show, Dr Hamster, has a pet turtle called Tiddles. Amelie was given a soft toy version of Tiddles and now she will not go to sleep without it!
Indeed, turtles were also one of the highlights of the family’s recent trip to Madiera, where they spent 10 days basking in the 26-degree heat and meeting some of the local wildlife.
That may be their last trip abroad for a while, but for now they’ve got a different type of adventure to look forward to: meeting and enjoying their two babies in just a few weeks’ time. 🙂
