One of the biggest honours of doing the job I do is bearing witness to families as they anticipate new arrivals, warmly welcome their babies and then lovingly raise them.
I first met this wonderful family at their maternity photoshoot, when daughter Addie was 18 months old (see the photos here).
I got to see how they blossomed into a family of four at their newborn photoshoot (see their photos here).
And now, in the blink of an eye, their youngest, Cayde, is six months’ old already, and the family returned for their sitter session with me.
Dad RJ wasn’t able to take his full allocation of paternity leave due to work pressures at the time of Cayde’s birth. This means he’s been able to use that time more recently instead.
For example, for Addie’s second birthday the family went back to America to visit family for a week, which also meant that mum Jessika got to meet her sisters’ two little ones for the first time.
Little Addie is the world’s biggest fan of Paw Patrol, Peppa Pig and belting out her favourite nursery rhymes.
Addie adores Cayde and the feeling is mutual. No-one can make him giggle as much or as easily as Addie, and Addie can regularly be heard chatting away to him, repeating whatever she’s heard mum and dad say to him!
She loves to hold his bottle for him when he’s feeding, and is not yet ready to share his attention, saying, “My Cayde!” whenever anyone else tries to hold him!
Cayde is already sitting up unaided, and has become the most appreciative audience of his big sister’s antics.
When I saw him at his newborn photoshoot, Cayde was sleeping for 20 hours every day. Now, he has just has a couple of short naps per day – there’s so much he wants to see and do and touch in his waking hours!
Sadly, this military family will be moving on to their next adventure at the end of 2022, which means I might not get to see them again. 🙁
Wherever they go, I very much look forward to hearing where they make their home next (Jessika is hoping for the East Coast) and how they get on with the next season of their life as a wonderful family of four. 🙂
