May 2022 update: The above image has just won a Gold Award in the most recent monthly competition run by the Master Photographers Association. Judge Sarah Tate FMPA commented, “As soon as I opened this month’s images, this is the one I thought should be the winner; this one [or] the other one you’ve taken of these twins.
“This has been beautifully put together, you’ve really thought about your colours, your wrapping, everything… and the babies are gorgeous. It’s a fabulous shot – I really, really love it, couldn’t fault it [and think] it’s well worthy of the winner so well done Sarah!”
I last saw this lovely family when baby Amelie joined the family. Amelie is now two and a half years old and her mum and dad popped back in the studio more recently for a maternity photoshoot (see the photos here).
This was a very special pregnancy: mum Lucia and dad Barry were expecting twin girls and it had been a long and bumpy road since they decided they’d add one last time to their beautiful family.
The new arrivals would join Elouise (7), Isabella (5) and of course, Amelie (2.5).
Baby Sienna was born first, weighing 6lbs 6oz, followed by baby Claudia who was 6lbs and 9oz.
Since then, all three children have joined their parents in loving, adoring and caring for the new arrivals, albeit with the three sisters still learning how to tell them apart!
If you study each twin carefully, however, you can see that they each have very different features, and both Barry and Lucia are adept at being able to answer their children when they ask, “Which one is this one?”
As parents of twins know well, having two babies at once is sometimes three times as hard.
Nevertheless, Barry and Lucia make a formidable parenting team, sharing the load as equitably as possible right down to splitting the night shifts between them.
And they are incredibly lucky that their different working patterns enable them to manage all the childcare without external help.
That means that one or both of them has been there for every single milestone for each of their daughters – first smiles, first words, first steps, first day at school and every achievement in between.
They know how rare that is and how uniquely fulfilling their experience of parenting has been as a result.
And it’s an approach they intend to continue as they watch and enjoy Claudia and Sienna growing up with their sisters.
Because while twins might sometimes be more than twice as challenging as a single baby, multiples are somehow ten times as cute.
And their loving family know just how lucky they are to have two more beautiful girls to add to their very, very happy tribe. 🙂
