November 2022 update: The above image has just won a Silver Award in the monthly qualified photographers competition run by the Master Photographers Association (MPA).
Judge Sarah Tate FMPA commented, “This one I love: the expression on big sister’s face is gorgeous and you’ve done really well to pose baby and sister so lovely [together]. I like the white background, I like the fact that you can still see the beanbag and it’s not been bleached out – it’s been handled very, very well. It’s beautiful and the parents must love it because it’s absolutely gorgeous and you’ve worked really hard on that. Editing is beautiful, well done; definitely, definitely deserves this award.”
Photographing two generations together is always special. However, capturing three generations together is absolutely magical – and that’s what I was able to do for newborn Tessa.
Tessa’s maternal grandparents, Alice and Pailan, travelled over to spend a few months helping Bincy and Deepak to settle into life as parents of two little ones.
Afterwards, Bincy will be returning home with her parents to Kerala in India so she can spend time with friends and family.
Four-week-old Tessa joins five-year-old Issa in the household: much to Issa’s delight, who very specifically wanted to have a sister, not a brother!
No children were allowed at the hospital, so Issa had a two-day wait before she could meet little Tessa.
She was very, very patient, and finally got her first glimpse of Tessa on the pavement outside the maternity ward.
Since then, Issa has been covering Tessa with gentle kisses and asking her mum and dad why Tessa is taking so loooooong to grow enough that they can finally play together!
For Bincy, her favourite moment so far was the first time she held Tessa.
She and Deepak had been in separate countries when Issa was born, and Bincy really appreciated having Deepak by her side this time round.
Deepak is back at work and had a row of night shifts at the time of the family’s newborn photoshoot, so his favourite moment is when both his girls are soundly sleeping – because it means he can catch up on a few Zzzs, too!
I previously had the honour of meeting Bincy, Deepak and Issa at their maternity photoshoot with me (see the photos here).
At that time I was blown over by how well-organised Bincy was in everything she did, and that’s not changed with the arrival of little Tessa.
Indeed, all six members of the family turned up in impeccably coordinated outfits – all of which helps ensure that these precious, precious images of three generations together will look absolutely stunning once up on the walls in the family’s new home.
