There were high expectations when this lovely family turned up for their photoshoot.
That’s because when they were last here – three years ago – one of my pictures of their newborn son, Ethan, won me the title of Newborn Photographer of the Year 2019 (Central Region).
At that time, mum Nicole and dad Martyn opted not to have any family images taken, as Martyn’s daughter Faye wasn’t able to attend.
Now, seven-month-old Eboni has joined the family, so they booked in with me for a family photoshoot during the school holidays so 14-year-old Faye could join in.
Faye is just about to start studying for her GCSEs, and is particularly looking forward to her textiles course.
That’s because she hopes to be a wedding dress designer, putting her creative talents and eye for detail to good use.
She’s had an awesome summer holiday, with a trip to Florida earlier on, and an indoor skydiving lesson and Center Parcs holiday still to come.
Meanwhile, three-year-old Ethan is loving being a big brother.
His nana came to pick him up while Nicole was giving birth.
When Ethan woke up the next day, he called out, “Nana is here!”
Nicole responded, “Nana has gone home, but someone else is here…!”
Ethan ran in, saying Eboni’s name and gave her lots of kisses and cuddles.
He’d spoken about her a lot during Nicole’s pregnancy, talking about what toys she’d have, and that she wasn’t ready to come out yet because she needed to get bigger.
The sibling bond was cemented early on when Eboni sweetened the deal of her arrival by ‘buying’ Ethan a special Batman toy, which he was delighted with.
Ethan also loves going along with his dad to what they call ‘Wrestle Club’.
Martyn attends the excellent Inspire Jiu Jitsu classes each week.
After a lifetime of learning martial arts he tells me that David Plested’s group is the best he’s been to: child-friendly, welcoming and well-structured, with a clear theme each month and time to catch up if you miss a week.
I can second Martyn’s recommendation, as I’ve been going to the women’s class every Wednesday and find it a incredibly enjoyable as well as mentally and physically challenging.
Nicole meanwhile has recently returned to playing netball with the club that meets in Chesterton each week, and is looking forward to the new season, particularly as the covid rules have now relaxed a little.
It’s clear that this family have a vibrant, busy and very loving family life and I was determined to capture that.
And hopefully one of these images will have pride of place on their walls at home – just as the award-winning one of newborn baby Ethan has here in my studio hallway. 🙂
