Indoor Family Photoshoot with Natasha, Mo, Aila & Amira

When the weather’s too grim for outdoor shoots, we can always stay indoors instead. Photographing your family in your home is not only super-convenient, but also captures an environment that is personal and meaningful to you. Here’s how we got on during a recent photoshoot of a family of four.

Natasha and Mo wanted to capture their newly expanded family, following the recent arrival of adorable Amira. To keep the newborn comfortable and avoid the wintry weather outside, we recommended that we go for an indoor shoot in the master bedroom.

The bedroom was ideal, with plain white walls that bounced the light around, a large window to one side and simple furnishings. The setting provided a sense of place, while keeping the focus on the family.

We started out with big sister Aila (9) and her dad, Mo:

I love their soft smiles and carefully chosen outfits: a narrow wardrobe palette of grey, cream and purple compliments the headboard behind Aila and Mo while introducing an understated pop of colour.

Next, I pulled mum Natasha and newborn Amira into the composition, for this portrait of the family together:

Mum Natasha looks so fab, despite a few sleepless nights lately! Talking of sleep, little Amira was happy to doze through the shoot, thanks to a belly full of milk and nice, warm room.

Dad stepped out of the frame for the next portrait, which features just the girls together:

I love the matching angles of Natasha and Aila’s faces here, as they both turned to smile adoringly at baby Amira.

Dad scooped up Amira so I could capture Natasha and Aila together:

I love how natural, relaxed and loving they both look here. I love a bit of symmetry, so I’m really pleased with how Aila’s toes and the edge of Natasha’s dress are exactly the same distance from the edge of the bed, echoed by the symmetrical lights on the bedside tables at either side, too.

Dad brought Amira back over to the bed for a shot of Aila with her new sister:

You can really feel the affection Aila has for Amira already, and Amira seemed pretty content, too!

To finish up the family shoot, I asked Aila to hold her little sis, for this final shot from above:

What a lovely family; so warm, so clearly delighted with their new addition, and looking incredibly fab despite all the upheaval of giving birth and moving house, too!

The family also booked me for a separate newborn photography session. Click the link to see the images and read about the shoot.

Afterwards, Dad Mo said:

“My wife and I recently hired Sarah to take some family shots with our newborn daughter. Sarah impressed us all with her professionalism, skill and expertise. Taking family shots with a ten-day-old child isn’t easy but Sarah made it an enjoyable experience with excellent results. We would highly recommend her to anyone.”
