Newborn Portraits of three-week-old twins, Louie & Lochlan

Sometimes the maths doesn’t make sense. One newborn baby is super cute, but two together? Somehow the sum total is more than double the cuteness.

Not only are Louie and Lochlan totally adorable, they already have that special bond unique to twins. Yet it nearly wasn’t so. Mum Natasha shared her story during the boys’ newborn photoshoot.

Natasha was a mum-of-three when she found out she was pregnant again. She and husband Jake went along to a scan appointment, where the sonographer started to get excited.

“There’s one heartbeat here,” she said, “and another there! You’re expecting twins!”

The pair drove home in stunned silence. They hadn’t been planning any more children, and now there were two on the way!

The news started to sink in and the anticipation increased as the pair started to prepare for the twins’ arrival. Then, bad news came.

A brain scan during the womb indicated that little Louie hadn’t developed properly. There were talks about his quality of life, and Natasha and Jake were asked to have a difficult conversation and return a few days later.

“Those five days was the worst of my life,” Natasha said, “My daughter had recently celebrated her birthday, and we went into town so she could spend some money gifted by her family. I could hardly get through the day. I looked around at everyone, walking around oblivious to the torment in my head. How could the world be carrying on as normal when this huge bombshell had just been dropped on us?”

The couple returned to hospital to meet with a specialist. He reviewed the scans and had some good news – they had been misinterpreted and he believed both twins were developing perfectly.

The relief was intense, washing away all the dread, fear and anxiety of the past five days. Both babies were going to be ok.

After birth, there was some breathing difficulties that meant a two-week stay in hospital before Natasha and Jake could finally take them home.

“They’d been in separate cribs in the special care unit,” Natasha said, “and I was worried they would no longer be used to being near each other anymore. But when we put them down next to each other, the most amazing thing happened: they reached out for each other and snuggled up. Now, when nothing else calms them, I put them side by side and they soothe each other.”

Maybe that’s why twins are more than twice as cute: as well as being tiny and adorable, they’re already showing their love for each other 🙂

This is the special bond that we wanted to capture during their newborn shoot. And I hope you’ll agree that we succeeded 🙂

“Sarah absolutely done amazing with my newborn twins! She fitted us in last minute and gave all her time and attention to the twins in our time with her. And the pictures were beyond beautiful and eye capturing. We can’t wait to see what she does with their 6 month pictures with their siblings! Thank you so much.”
