Rouge is a training restaurant for hospitality and catering students. When it was newly opened, the management team wanted to show that the quality and calibre of food produced in their kitchens matched up to any fine-dining restaurant. The best way to achieve this was through simple, mouthwatering food photography.
I used the white tablecloths of the restaurant tables as a plain backdrop, to keep all focus on the food. Then I positioned each dessert close to the restaurant’s large windows to take advantage of the soft, natural light they provide. A shallow depth of field draws your eye to the textures and garnish of each dish, while a few out-of-focus details add a little context in the background.
