Family Films

What’s are family films?

Photographs capture a moment, and are perfect for displaying on your walls.

But when you want to capture a whole day of moments, consider a family film.

A family film lets you relive your memories in the most immersive format of all, with motion, visuals and music all combining to create an atmospheric video of your family, at its best.

“Sarah was very discreet, she was reassuring every step of the way. I did wonder if anything would be restaged or things paused and shuffled around to suit the camera but the way Sarah silently followed us all was perfect, it allowed us all to be ourselves without feeling ‘on show’ We could be a family exactly as we would usually go about everything which is exactly the essence we hoped to capture in the video. I would have changed nothing other than to have found a 30 minute long track to which she could squeeze even more beautiful shots into. Sarah has put so much magic into our short film and captured an authentic memory of how our every day was in 2018 that will be treasured always. You are amazing at what you do Sarah and we are all so grateful.”

How do video portraits work?

I apply the same relaxed, fun-focused approach to family films as to my portrait photography sessions.

We’ll agree beforehand about the kind of mood that we want to capture, and any key scenes you’d like included.

We can start at your home, to capture some establishing shots of everyone getting ready, or meet at a much-loved wood, forest or other location that your family frequent (depending on permissions).

I’ll capture you interacting without the focus being on facing towards the camera.

Occasionally, I will gently direct you, or lead your family in age-appropriate games to create happy, authentic expressions.

Afterwards, I’ll edit the footage into a short film about 1-3 minutes in length and licence appropriate music.

Then, we’ll book in a date for your film’s premiere – on the big screen in the comfort of your own home.

Afterwards, I’ll send you the high resolution file for you to watch, keep and share with friends and family.

“Sarah created a beautiful video of a day in the life of our three-year-old daughter, Eliza. She was extremely patient and managed to get some beautiful footage out of a tricky customer! The video was edited and completed quickly and is a real favourite with our family!”
