Studio Dog Portrait Session with Jack & Fletch

This shoot featured Jack (right) and Fletch (left). Jack is a 6-year-old Cocker Spaniel, while Fletch is a German Shepherd pup, who was nearly 10 months old when this was taken.

I love this portrait of them together: Jack is keeping an eye on things while Fletch is just itching to run off and play.

It’s one of a series of dog portraits taken at the first of the Limited Edition Dog Portrait Days I’m offering at Whitelands Farm Sports Ground Pavilion in Bicester.

We started the shoot off with each dog on their own on a dark background, with Jack leading the way:

Next up was Fletch, who has unbelievably soft fur. I just wanted to cuddle him!:

Fletch tilts his head like this when something attracts his curiosity, so I was really keen to capture this characteristic gesture in his portraits. We did a couple more photos with both dogs on the black background, then switched to the white. Fletch was more than happy to chill out on the studio stage for this one:

Then it was Jack’s turn again. I love his steady eye contact here, as well as the curly hair on his ears and the patch of white across his chest:

Lastly, we finished up with another one of both dogs together on the white:

I love how protective Jack looks towards Fletch here, despite his smaller size, and how they fit so perfectly next to each other, with their paws overlapping. It’s a sweet image to finish with, and the one that ended up being mine and Emma’s favourite from the shoot. Afterwards, Emma said:

“Brilliant and EXTREMELY patient, Sarah took photos of my two dogs; they were not the easiest customers but somehow Sarah managed to take some beautiful shots of them together and on their own, super happy and will be singing her praises to whoever will listen!! Thank you for the amazing pictures that I will be able to keep even when heaven forbid that they will no longer be around.”
